Corbin’s songs…

Posted by Stacy

Corbin likes to run around the house and sing. I encourage this and love this behavior about him, but some of the songs he sings are just so funny..

"I'm a gummy bear.. I'm a gummy bear.. I'm a... I'm a... I'm a gummy bear..."

Or he'll sing "Hungry, Hungry Hippos!" except it'll be "Hungry, hungry CORBIN". He finds it to be the most hilarious thing ever. That and there's a song he learned at daycareSCHOOL (he refuses to let us call it daycare) that I've heard him sort of singing.. Something about clap, clap, clap and then later on "in our lap, lap, lap".. I don't really know because he'll only mumble it. But it sounds cute!

School

Posted by Stacy

As you may know, I've been applying to school and for financial aid lately. I've been thinking about the things that I want to go to school for, and thinking ahead for the future. I've been looking at all sorts of different degrees and trying to figure out what would be best for me, for the short-term and the long-term. Something that I came across was an Organizational development degree. It's a really interesting online program that equips future leaders with the knowledge and skills they'll need to be able to use to organize and lead people. They also encourage smaller class sizes, to easily accommodate their students and provide a very solid mentorship for their students. They've got everything you need to know on that one easy page for their Organizational development degree.

And, on the topic of their design, it is very clean and simple to read and understand. I'm very particular about websites for schools, because I've seen some really bad college websites before. Ones that were impossible to navigate and read through and understand, but this one is very nicely put together. They also do something that I enjoy very much.. List their 800 number multiple times so you can't miss it. It's definitely something worth looking into though, if you're like me and wanting to go to school.

The Test

Posted by Stacy

So I took my Compass test this morning. Took me about an hour to complete and I didn't do..... terrible. I couldn't eat breakfast this morning.. I felt like I'd taken a boatload of appetite suppressants and just couldn't even fathom the thought of eating. I got there.. Showed them my ID.. got taken to the room.. And the test began. It wasn't timed or anything. It's just a placement test. I did really well on writing and reading. Not that I'm surprised. But my Math score was so bad. So so bad. I always had a difficult time with math, and I was trying to do it all in my head and with what little paper I had. But man.. it was just.. I had no idea on some of the questions. So it shows me where I should be placed. Now I have to finish the DMACC application and file for financial aid. Woo hoo.

Something I’m not paid for!

Posted by Stacy

So, I was concerned about waking up in the morning (because I am a heavy sleeper and sooo not a morning person) to get Corbin to daycare on time and me to classes. I was thinking, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a program that I could set up that would call my phone every morning? Just like a wake-up call in hotels.." and so I started googling. What I found was Snoozester. So if you're like me, and would like a nice wake-up call in the morning that sometimes is actually amusing... Sign up for a free Snoozester account. You get 10 credits (10 phone calls) just for signing up, and they have some ways you can make free credits too. It's really awesome.

Daycare Week 1: Success

Posted by Stacy

Except for Friday, when he was throwing up all night the night before and I kept him out, everything went really well. He really enjoys it and doesn't want to come home in the evenings. He goes from 9:30am until 5pm and just absolutely has a ball. He's on a great schedule, and he's really happy. This week he has his eye doctor appointment and we'll see how that goes, but seems like everything's on track.

Oh, and Monday is my Compass test for entry into DMACC. Need to do that, then apply for DMACC, then apply for financial aid. Well, I'll do them all in the same day but it'll all work out for the best I'm sure. Just need to wait and give things time. Here's hoping.
